82-year-old man Facing Manslaughter Charge after Retirement Home Assault

Detectives with the Brantford Police Service have arrested an 82-year-old male in connection with an assault between two residents at a retirement home located on Diana Avenue.
 
Officers responded to an assault related call on September 5, 2021, at approximately 2:50 p.m., after an 89-year-old-female resident was reported to have been struck by an 82-year-old male resident of the same facility.
 
Investigation revealed the assault caused the woman to fall and strike her head.
 
Emergency Medical Services transported the woman to hospital where, despite life-saving efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.
 
As a result of the investigation, police have charged the involved man with manslaughter. 
 
The accused was held in police custody and will appear before the court on September 16, 2021.
 
As charges are now before the courts, investigators cannot discuss evidence as it pertains to the case.
