On Sunday, September 13, 2020 at approximately 1:20 a.m. Brantford Police responded to a call from a concerned citizen who observed a vehicle strike a tree then flee the scene. The vehicle was described as a small, white, four-door car occupied by a driver and one passenger.  

Community Patrol Officers attended to the scene where remnants of automobile parts were found alongside the uprooted tree. 

The suspect vehicle, accused driver, and passenger were located by Community Patrol Officers in a nearby parking lot on Colborne Street East. The registered owner, later identified as the accused, had contacted the Brantford Police Station to falsely report that his vehicle had been stolen.

During the investigation, Community Patrol Officers received conflicting stories from the two individuals involved, as each claimed the other was driving at the time of the accident. While speaking with the individuals, Officers observed signs of impairment. Both parties were arrested and transported to the station to provide samples of breath as required by law. Samples provided were over the legal limit.

As a result of the investigation,

A 20 year old male from Brantford is charged with:

  • Novice Driver, Blood Alcohol Concentration Above 0 under the Highway Traffic Act
  • Suspension of licence for three days and the vehicle impounded for seven days, and

A 20 year old male from Brantford was charged with:    

  • Careless Driving, Under the Highway Traffic Act
  • Novice Driver, Blood Alcohol Concentration Above 0 under the Highway Traffic Act
  • Suspension of licence for three days

On Thursday, September 10, 2020 at approximately 4:00 pm an altercation occurred between occupants of two vehicles in the parking lot of a business located at Dalhousie Street and King Street.

The accused was passenger in a vehicle driven by his girlfriend, which arrived and parked alongside a vehicle occupied by two passengers. As the driver began to exit her vehicle, her car door made contact with the victims’ vehicle. While assessing the damage, the victim was confronted by the accused who was verbally abusive and threatened to shoot the victim, claiming to be in possession of a firearm. The victims did not witness a firearm, but believed the accused to be in possession of one. The accused and his girlfriend then left the area and the victims called 9-1-1 for police assistance.  

Community Patrol Officers attended the scene and conducted a search of the area for the subject vehicle, which was located in a parking lot at Henry Street and Wayne Gretzky Parkway.

Officers secured the area and, upon confirming the identity of the vehicle’s occupants, the accused was directed out of the motor vehicle. While being escorted from the vehicle, the accused became violent with officers, resisting arrest and damaging the interior of the police vehicle.     

The driver of the subject vehicle was directed out of the vehicle without incident. 

As a result of the investigation, a 21 year old male from Brantford is charged with the following under theCriminal Code:

  • Utter threats to cause death
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Failure to comply with a Recognizance
  • Obstructing a Peace Officer
